What Are the Common Bad Habits of Cats
Actually, some bad habits of cats are also normal, since we cannot spend as much time training cats as we do with dogs. It is a very laborious and unrewarding task—not because cats are not smart, but due to their personality, training cats is not very easy.
1. Being too sensitive to strangers and unfamiliar things
Most cats are very shy, and when they sense something unusual or an unfamiliar person, they become very anxious and try to escape or scratch things randomly. They dislike changes in life and prefer a stable environment. However, once they realize these things are not harmful, this behavior will improve significantly.
2. Cats drinking water indiscriminately
Actually, cats do not drink a lot of water by nature. Even if we provide water specifically, they may not drink it actively. However, some cats drink toilet water or lick water on the bathroom floor. Such behavior is unhealthy and unsanitary as bacteria can easily enter the cat’s body through unclean water, so this behavior should be prevented.
3. Not using the litter box for excretion
The strong odor of cat waste is well known to owners. Whether it is cat urine or feces, the smell is stronger than that of dogs. If cats do not use the litter box for elimination, the bad smell will spread throughout the house. Therefore, we must find possible causes for this problem. Common reasons for cats avoiding the litter box include a long time without cleaning, using poor quality litter, or noisy surroundings.
4. Likes to destroy furniture
Common sofas and bookcases often cannot escape the cat’s claws. This is a main reason why many people dare not keep cats. Due to their nature, cats always scratch to sharpen their claws, so nail trimming should be paid attention to.
5. Loud vocalizations during heat
During the cat’s heat period, female cats start making cries very similar to a baby’s crying in the middle of the night, which can cause disputes among neighbors. Male cats start urinating randomly, which is very troublesome.
6. Kittens are very curious
Kittens just weaned are very energetic and curious. They want to touch everything they see and run around wildly, easily getting frightened and being very sensitive, charging recklessly around the house.
7. Shedding problem
Whether long-haired or short-haired cats, shedding is their biggest downside. They shed hair regularly, and during seasonal changes, shedding worsens. To improve this, try to brush the cat’s fur every day.
8. Cats are prone to being picky eaters
Cats tend to be picky eaters because once they taste better food than before, their interest in the original food decreases significantly. So when raising cats, be careful not to feed treats or other food too frequently.
9. Easily breaking fragile items
Unlike dogs, cats can easily jump to high places. Therefore, unless food is properly hidden or locked away, cats can get it. Also, vases or fragile items placed on tables or high places are easily damaged by them.
