Two Little Tips to Raise a Well-Behaved Home Cat
Local Cat
1. Training Starts from Kittenhood, Correct Mistakes on the Spot
Cats must be educated immediately at the scene of making mistakes. Since most cat owners have to work, this may be difficult to achieve, making it harder to correct the cat's bad behavior.
Training should begin during the cat's youth. It is very difficult to correct a bad habit of an adult cat, while preventing it from the beginning is easier. However, with persistence, any cat can learn some simple behavioral rules.
Training is best started within a few days after you bring the cat home. Keep a water spray bottle or a noise maker (you can put some coins in an aluminum can) handy during training. Whenever the cat climbs on chairs or scratches furniture, spray water at it or shake the noise maker beside it. If you cannot watch it, restrict its activity area before leaving home. Do not physically punish the cat, as punishment will only make the cat fear its owner and lose trust.
2. Create a Suitable Environment for Happy Training
Do not leave tasty food or things that might arouse the cat's curiosity on tables or chairs where the cat can find them. This encourages the cat to climb. If the floor is dirty or there are things or animals the cat fears, the cat will have to jump onto furniture to stay.
Please prepare a scratching post for your cat. The scratching post can be wrapped with a relatively rough blanket or could be a bare wooden stick, depending on the cat’s preference. You can also set up a sunny spot on the windowsill or other higher place for the cat to sunbathe and watch the view. The cat’s greatest pleasure is sitting in the sunlight, enjoying the scenery, and safely observing the outside world.
The key to training is to make the cat feel happy while establishing good behavior. If the above methods do not work, reconsider whether you have provided a living environment that suits your cat’s nature and preferences, and make targeted adjustments. (Source:PetsZone)
