Training Cats to Walk with You

Pet owners who love cats often dream that one day their kitten can go outdoors for a walk with them. Enjoying this happy and joyful time is not difficult; here is how to train your cat to walk with you.
Training your cat to walk outside with you should preferably start when the cat is a kitten. First, train the kitten to get used to wearing a collar and a leash. Remember that the collar should not be too tight or heavy. At first, the kitten may be uncomfortable wearing something around its neck, so do not let it wear the collar for too long initially to avoid agitation.
After 2-3 days of getting used to the collar around its neck, the owner can practice walking indoors with the leash attached, continuing each time until the kitten becomes impatient.
Next, train the kitten to stroll around the doorstep, then gradually lead it to farther places to help it adapt to walking.
Once the kitten is gradually accustomed to this, you can take it for walks farther from home. If the cat resists, do not force it. Try multiple times progressively, and one day you will succeed.
At the start of walks, the kitten may feel scared being away from home. It’s advisable to walk in safe areas near the house without going too far. Let the kitten gradually get used to the surrounding sounds and scenes. Also, follow the cat’s wishes during walks; the distance should be based on the kitten’s interest, patience, and physical condition. The owner should follow the cat to places it wants to go and never forcibly drag it. (Source:PetsZone)
