Timely Discovery of Signs in Mother Cats Before Delivery
Chinchilla Cat
A few days before delivery, the mother cat’s behavior should be closely observed to timely detect various signs before labor and make birth preparations. The mother cat’s activity decreases several days before labor, and she looks for a quiet, warm place to prepare for the delivery.
Before delivery, the mother cat’s abdomen is noticeably enlarged and sagging, the breasts and nipples swell and grow larger, the nipples protrude and turn deep pink, and sometimes milk may leak.
As the due date approaches, the mother cat may show restlessness, constantly changing position, or crouching on the ground, some may meow. If there is a birthing box, she frequently enters and exits it; some stay inside the nest unwilling to leave, some lie on their side with rapid breathing. A few hours before labor, fetal movement inside the abdomen may cause the mother cat to lick her abdomen. Before labor, mucus flows from the vulva, and the uterus begins contractions. Due to labor pains, the mother cat appears uncomfortable and more anxious. This indicates that the cat is about to give birth. Place her in the prepared birthing box immediately, gently stroke her to calm her emotions, and let her give birth alone in the box, but keep a close watch.
