An employee of Mississippi Power Company went to assist what he thought was a broken-down car but ended up completing a rescue mission for a frightened furry friend.

Nate Burse, an engineer at Mississippi Power Company, said that on his way to a job, he saw what he thought was a woman next to her broken-down car. Nate decided to help the woman, and when he approached her, he was told that a kitten had gotten into one of the car’s wheel wells.

With the help of the Harrison County sheriff and the emergency center directing traffic, Nate crawled under the car and retrieved the little furball.

Burse said he decided to help because his manager once told him that when wearing his uniform, it is his duty to assist anyone in need. “Whether Mississippi Power Company people stopped to help or not, through this event I’ve already made an impression on their hearts. Either Mississippi Power Company didn’t stop, or Mississippi Power Company stopped. Because I wanted to help anyway, it made things a lot simpler, because I remember my manager allowed us to do this kind of thing.”

The kitten, later named "Peanut," was adopted.
