Methods for Training Cats to Jump Through Hoops

Leopard Cat
Cats are very intelligent animals and can acquire many skills after careful training. However, cats are proud animals, so training must not be rushed; it should proceed step by step, and good performance must be rewarded.
A hoop for training cats to jump through can be made using bamboo embroidery hoops or by twisting thick iron wire into a ring about 30 cm in diameter.
During training, place the hoop flat on the ground, positioned between the trainer and the cat, and continuously give the "jump" command to the cat.
If the cat walks through the hoop, immediately reward it with food; if it goes around the edge, gently scold it. After repeated practice, the cat will associate the "jump" command with walking through the hoop.
Next, gradually raise the height of the hoop from the ground to force the cat to jump through it. Each successful jump should be rewarded.
At first, do not raise the hoop too high at once. If the cat hesitates to jump, the owner can place food inside the hoop to lure it and continue giving the "jump" command. Once the cat jumps through once, it becomes much easier thereafter.
After training for some time, gradually reduce the food rewards. When the cat can jump through a hoop 30-60 cm above the ground on command without food rewards, the training is successful.
