Master the Correct Method to Train Your Cat Well

Every cat has its own temperament and habits. How do you choose the right time to train your cat at the correct age? The following points can help you train your cat well.

  1. Age for training. Training should start at 2 to 3 months old, as cats are more receptive to training at this age and it lays a foundation for future improvement.

  2. Grasp the right timing for training. The best time to train cats is before feeding because a hungry cat is more willing to be close to people and more obedient. Food is tempting for cats, making training easier.

  3. Organic combination of various stimuli. Various stimuli and methods should be combined organically; you should neither be too harsh nor let the cat do as it pleases. There should be a balance of firmness and gentleness, combining strictness with flexibility. However, when training a specific action, do not use too many methods to avoid confusing the cat.

  4. Attitude should be kind and patient. Cats are stubborn and have strong pride; they do not like to be controlled. So, the attitude should be gentle, like playing with the cat. Even if a mistake is made, do not scold or punish excessively; otherwise, the cat will develop an aversion to training, affecting the entire training process.

  5. Proceed step by step and do not rush. Only one action should be taught at a time; never conduct multiple trainings simultaneously. Cats find it hard to learn many actions at once, and if they frequently fail, they may lose confidence and become annoyed, causing difficulties for future training. Each training session should not exceed 10 minutes but can be conducted several times a day.

  6. The training environment should be quiet. Several people should not train the cat simultaneously to avoid distracting the cat's attention. Training actions should not be too sudden or produce loud noises, as cats are very sensitive to loud sounds or sudden movements, which may scare them away or make them hide and unwilling to accept training.
