What does F.V.R. mean?
F.V.R. is a fatal and highly contagious disease caused by feline herpesvirus infection. It mainly attacks the nasal mucosa, trachea, and conjunctiva. Basically, cats of any age can be infected; however, kittens are the most vulnerable! Cats under six months old are more easily infected, with the highest mortality rate in kittens aged 6-12 weeks.
The transmission routes of this disease include direct and indirect contact. Since this disease only affects felines, if there is a suspected F.V.R. infected cat at home, it should be isolated and the environment disinfected.
