How to Train British Shorthair Cats
Ragdoll cat
British Shorthair cats are loved by many for their simple and cute appearance and gentle personality. However, not all British Shorthairs are so gentle and obedient, so training is necessary for some naughty British Shorthairs. So how should British Shorthairs be trained?
1. Name Recognition Training Method
When the cat is excited, often calling its name makes it easier to remember who it is. For example, during petting, playing, or before feeding are good times. It is especially important not to punish the cat when it comes to you after hearing its name, otherwise it will associate punishment with the name call and become afraid to come to you.
2. Action Behavior Training Method
Cats also have behaviors. For example, when you call it and want to hold it, you need to give the cat a command. At this time, you must repeatedly perform these actions frequently, and when the cat does it right, reward it; if it makes a mistake, punish it. Common rewards include food, verbal praise, and petting.
3. Verbal Behavior Training Method
Including verbal praise, petting the head or back, and giving food snacks, which can reinforce the cat’s correct actions. At the beginning, whenever the cat completes a simple action, reward it. As training actions advance, the threshold for rewards should increase. When it completes more complex actions, give appropriate rewards to fully exert the effect of rewards.
