How to Teach Cats to Receive Food
Many dogs can catch food, making cat owners envious. Actually, cats can be trained too! How can owners train their cats to receive food? Most cats are not as tall as dogs, but as long as the owner adapts to the cat’s height, the cat can stand up and accept the food from your hand. Here are a few tricks to quickly master this interesting little training!
Step one: When the cat is sitting on the ground, hold a piece of food and slowly approach it. While giving the food, say "stand up" to the cat. Make sure the cat does not use its front paws to touch the food.
Step two: If the cat stretches out its front paw, the pet site editor says to raise the food just before the cat touches it. Repeat the training until the cat understands that it cannot use its front paws to take the food but must use its mouth. Then, it will stand up and take the food from your hand with mouth and paws working together.
Step three: After the cat understands the training actions, place the food at a higher position and make the gesture as if giving it. The initial height should be at a level the cat can reach while sitting, then gradually increase the height.
