How to Give a Cat an Injection
Persian cat
1. It is best to have two people help when giving an injection: one to hold the cat and the other to inject. If the cat struggles severely, it is necessary to have two people hold the cat’s front and back legs respectively, and a third person to give the injection.
2. There are two injection techniques: subcutaneous and intramuscular. Generally, subcutaneous is safer. The method is to lift the skin on the back of the cat’s neck, and before injecting, lift it up and down a bit to prevent the cat from being too tense and the needle not penetrating. First, disinfect the skin with alcohol, then insert the needle at a 45-degree angle with the lifted skin, inject the medicine, pull out the needle, and press the injection site with alcohol cotton for a few seconds. When inserting the needle, the tip should not point downward but slightly upward. Older cats have thicker skin, so it is harder to inject than in kittens.
Junior Senior’s experience is: insert the needle quickly and accurately with the needle eye facing up. When pushing the medicine, slightly pull the needle out a bit to make it easier to push. After pushing, withdraw the needle swiftly.
