How to Develop Good Hygiene Habits for Cats
Nowadays, families that keep cats try their best to maintain a clean home environment. If there is a naughty and unclean cat in the house, it can cause quite a headache for the owner. Maintaining the household environment and helping cats develop good hygiene habits is a guarantee for the health of both cats and owners. How to train cats to develop good hygiene habits? Below are some simple training methods.
First, train the cat to relieve itself in a fixed location. Cats are relatively clean animals, but the habit of using a fixed place for elimination must be developed through training. During training, place a waste tray or cardboard box beside the cat as a toilet, with 3-4 cm thick sand inside, and a small amount of sand with the smell of cat urine or feces on the top layer. When you see the cat anxious and restless, circling around, it indicates that the cat needs to defecate or urinate. At this time, guide the cat to the litter box and let it smell the sand inside the box first, so it will relieve itself in the litter box. After training several times, the habit will be formed. The litter box should be cleaned regularly and the bedding replaced to keep it clean and odor-free, preventing the cat from feeling the box is dirty and changing the location for elimination.
Secondly, teach the cat not to jump on tables or beds. The purpose is to prevent the cat from knocking over items and harming the owner’s health. Some cat lovers often let their cats sleep on the bed with them, which is a very unhygienic habit. Because if the cat has external parasite diseases (such as fleas, lice, etc.) or skin fungal infections, it will pose a risk to humans. Women and children have weaker skin resistance and are more prone to infection by fungal diseases from cats’ skin, causing itching and discomfort at the affected area. Therefore, cats should be trained from a young age not to get on the bed and let them sleep in their own nests.
