Four Precautions for Training Cats
Scottish Fold
Do you know how to train ? Here are four precautions for cat training for your reference.
1. Master the Appropriate Age and Timing for Training Cats
Cat training should start at 2 to 3 months of age, when they are more receptive to training and it lays the foundation for future improvement. Training adult cats is comparatively more difficult. The best time to train cats is before feeding, because hungry cats tend to be closer to people, more obedient, and the lure of food makes training easier to succeed.
2. Maintain a Gentle Attitude and Combine Various Stimuli During Training
Cats have a stubborn temperament and strong pride, and they don’t like to be easily controlled. Therefore, during training, various stimuli and methods should be organically combined, and the attitude should be gentle, like playing with the cat. Even if the cat makes mistakes, do not scold or punish excessively to avoid the cat developing aversion to training and affecting the completion of the entire training plan.
3. Training Cats Should Be Step-by-Step and Not Rushed
Only one action should be taught at a time; multiple trainings should not be conducted simultaneously, as cats find it hard to learn many actions at once. Constant failure can cause the cat to lose confidence and develop aversion, making future training difficult. Training sessions should not be too long, no more than 10 minutes, but can be repeated several times daily.
4. The Training Environment Should Be Quiet
Do not let several people train at the same time to avoid distracting the cat's attention. Training actions should not be too sudden, nor should there be loud noises, as cats are very sensitive to loud sounds or sudden movements. This can scare the cat away to hide and unwilling to accept training.
