Feeding Methods for Adult Turkish Calico Cats
Switching from kitten food to adult cat food
When Turkish Calico cats reach one year old, they need to switch to adult cat food specially formulated for adult cats; adult cats no longer require the large amounts of energy and nutrients provided by kitten food. Remember to follow the same rule when changing pet food: gradually mix the new food over 5-7 days. During this food transition period, pay special attention to monitoring the cat’s weight and adjust feeding amounts accordingly. Most cats will eat the amount of food based on their energy needs, so free feeding can be used. However, for cats that stay indoors and have low activity levels, free feeding may cause overweight issues; therefore, feeding measured portions twice daily can be adopted to prevent obesity.
Avoid feeding human food
Feeding Turkish Calico cats human food can cause undesirable behaviors, such as begging for food or stealing food. Feeding home-cooked food, feeding adult cat food (especially weight-loss formulas) to kittens, or adding vitamins and other supplements to a fully balanced cat food may result in nutritional imbalances.
Nutritional needs of kittens
If Turkish Calico cat food lacks sufficient taurine (an essential amino acid for cats found only in animal meat), it can cause slow growth, blindness, heart disease, reproductive issues, and other problems. Kittens and adult cats must always have plenty of fresh clean water and must be taken regularly to the veterinarian for check-ups to maintain physical and mental health and ensure the best condition.
