Essential Knowledge Cat Owners Must Know About Cat Mating
Egyptian Cat
To ensure purebred cats successfully deliver kittens, before the female cat’s heat period, you should consult pet shops, breeders, or affiliated cat clubs about related matters such as mating fees and kitten allocation rules. For first-time cat owners, it’s better to entrust experts to handle mating affairs; the key is to set mutually acceptable conditions to avoid unnecessary troubles later.
Generally, the female cat’s first heat before one week of age is not suitable for mating, as the cat is not physically or mentally mature enough, often resulting in difficult labor or inability to care for the newborn kittens. The second and subsequent heat cycles offer a more suitable condition for breeding.
Regarding the choice of male cat, those over 2 years old with good breeding ability and experience are preferable. If the male cat has little experience, it is best to pair him with a more experienced female cat for smoother mating.
Under the premise of health, inbreeding should be avoided when selecting mates: if both parties are compatible, meetings can be arranged at the male cat’s home. Some cats are only accustomed to humans and may be very shy when meeting other cats, requiring 3 to 5 days to complete mating. If the female must stay at the male’s home for several days, be sure to prepare her usual litter box sand and food in advance.
Before such introductions, check for parasites, fleas, or ear mites; if the cat’s condition is not good, it’s better to postpone. Additionally, there are often incidents of female cats escaping from the male cat’s home when fostered, so diligent supervision is essential.
Adult male and female cats enter heat periods and have reproductive ability. Owners who familiarize themselves with knowledge from introductions to delivery will not be overwhelmed when the time comes.
