Do Cats Also Understand Human Nature?

From the appearance of cats, there is no doubt that they are spiritual beings, but this feeling is different from what dogs give us. Dogs are good at getting close to people, pleasing people, and happily interacting and playing with us. The spirituality of cats lies in their mystery and aloofness, constantly giving us a sense of distance. However, not all cats are so indifferent; some will actively approach people, gradually understand human nature, and become an indispensable part of our lives.

Ms. Cai from Zhangzhou, Fujian, has a cat that understands human nature. Around 1985, Ms. Cai got this "kitten," with her son responsible for taking care of the cat's food and daily life. In the blink of an eye, Ms. Cai's granddaughter was already in middle school, and the cat became the granddaughter’s good companion. Having lived such a long time, the cat has also "somewhat understood human nature." When the owner knocks on the door frame with a bamboo stick, it immediately runs back; when the owner says the bathroom door area is cooler, it drags a mat there to sleep; when the owner washes their feet, it uses its paws to dip in water and clean itself. There is an elementary school in the old street, and the lively, long-lived cat comes out of the iron gate at dismissal time to wait. Children passing by on their way home always stop to tease it and sometimes buy it snacks. If it is fried meatballs, it will eagerly bite into them.

In fact, many cats understand human nature. A citizen in Anqing is known as a "cat whisperer," whose cats are not aloof. The owner is named Ren Xiangbin. He said he also raised cats as a child but stopped after starting work. In the past three years, he has kept 11 cats, all rescued or born from them. He remembers one day in July 2014, after dining with friends at night, he went to see nearby stray cats. A little kitten toddled over to stay by his feet. After Ren Xiangbin walked ten meters away, the kitten slowly chased after him and climbed his leg. At that moment, Ren decided to adopt it, "This little kitten was destined for me, so I took it home to raise. Unfortunately, it later died of illness."

People often ask, how do you raise such obedient cats? Ren Xiangbin answers: with heart. He says the joy he gets is from the interaction between humans and cats. Sometimes after returning from work tired, sitting on a chair unwilling to move, his cat will jump onto him, kneading on his left and right sides, lying on his lap, occasionally looking at him. Ren's heartfelt care earned the cat's dependence. He once wrote on Weibo: "A kitten picked up on Yuexi Road, raised for 15 months, understands human nature. I read, it lies on my lap; I write, it squats beside the computer; after socializing at night, it meets me at the road intersection 100 meters from home with a 'meow.'" After this understanding and the first cat to accompany him on walks, a calico, was kidnapped, Ren was heartbroken and decided never to raise cats again — until his son brought home another four cats.

Therefore, helping cats understand human nature requires our gradual cultivation and attentive care. The cat's happy mood is a necessary condition for mutual communication. To keep cats happy, providing a gentle and comfortable environment is essential. Cats don’t have to worry daily about their living and diet, allowing them to pass every day more easily.

Of course, it is worth noting that to make pet cats truly happy, besides daily management of food, living conditions, play, and exercise, the cat’s mental state is also an important factor affecting its happiness.

For example, if the owner ignores the cat for a long time and pays no attention to communication, even though they live in the same room, the owner's indifference and aloof attitude makes the cat feel insignificant. Over time, the cat will become depressed and may even suffer from depression. Thus, to make pet cats truly happy, owners should invest more time and energy to care for and attend to them. They should interact more with the cat (such as playing games or going for walks), so the pet cat grows up with a cheerful and healthy mentality, which is the only way to make it truly happy.
