Cat Neutering Surgery Full Process Care
Ragdoll cat
A: Surgery Timing
a) Physiological: In principle, the ideal time to perform the surgery is after the cat has reached physiological maturity and has experienced at least one heat cycle. At this stage, the cat's reproductive system and related organs are fully developed. Surgery performed too early may cause urinary stones and other reproductive or urinary system diseases.
Avoid surgery during the heat period as it may cause heavy bleeding.
To suppress the cat's nighttime noise during the heat cycle, one can give an antiallergic tablet such as chlorpheniramine around 6 pm. Be careful not to use the medication for more than 3 consecutive days. Any medication has side effects for cats, and using drugs is not a long-term solution: firstly, the effect is not very obvious; secondly, long-term unmet needs put the cat in a suppressed state, causing hormonal imbalance, which can lead to reproductive diseases or even cancer.
The mother cat should only be considered for surgery after her body has fully recovered and is healthy (at least one month after giving birth).
b) Timing: Female cats after 8 months, male cats after 9 months. (Different cat breeds mature sexually at very different times. Generally, Asian breeds mature earlier than other breeds, and short-haired breeds mature earlier than long-haired breeds.)
