Attention! Signs Before a Mother Cat Gives Birth
Himalayan Cat
A few days before giving birth, one should constantly observe the mother cat’s behavior to promptly detect various pre-labor signs and prepare for delivery. Several days before labor, the mother cat’s activity decreases, and she looks for quiet, warm places to prepare for birth.
Before giving birth, the mother cat’s abdomen is obviously enlarged and drooping. The breasts and nipples swell and enlarge, the nipples protrude and become deep pink, and sometimes milk may flow out.
As the due date approaches, the mother cat may appear restless, constantly changing positions, or crouching on the ground, sometimes vocalizing. If there is a nesting box, she frequently goes in and out of it. Some stay inside the nest unwilling to come out, some lie on their side, breathing rapidly. A few hours before labor, fetal movement inside the abdomen may cause the mother cat to lick her abdomen. Before labor, mucus flows from the vulva, and the uterus starts contractions. Due to contractions, the mother cat appears uncomfortable and more nervous. This indicates the cat is about to give birth. Immediately place her in the prepared nesting box and gently stroke her to calm her emotions, allowing her to give birth alone in the nesting box. However, she should be observed carefully.
