The winner receives a $1500 prize, enjoys a sumptuous meal prepared by local top restaurant chefs, and can participate in many talk shows. The World's Ugliest Dog opens many people's eyes and adds a lot of fun to life. However, behind the laughter, the organizers hope more people will pay attention to abandoned dogs so that they can live happier lives.

The participating dogs also include many dogs from animal shelters that have not been adopted. If they surpass the adoption period, they might be euthanized. This event has made many people start to pay attention to these dogs and adopt them. Of course, there are requirements for dogs participating in the World's Ugliest Dog contest. The dogs must be purebred and distinctly ugly. The judges evaluate based on the dog's distinctive features, unique personality, and the audience's first reaction.
The 2018 World's Ugliest Dog champion was a British Bulldog named Zsa. With an underbite, a long tongue dragging on the ground, O-shaped legs, messy teeth, and cloudy eyes, this combination earned Zsa the title of World's Ugliest Dog.
Zsa had a rough fate, spending five years locked in a cruel dog farm until rescued by a rescue team and adopted by an owner. In 2018, at the age of nine, Zsa peacefully passed away in her sleep.

The 2017 World's Ugliest Dog champion was Martha, a Neapolitan Mastiff. Martha was formerly a search and rescue dog and was not well cared for, resulting in red eyes and loose skin that made her look even more sluggish. Martha immediately lay down when she reached the competition stage, which made the judges feel she had a very unique personality.
Actually, the dog breed that has won the World's Ugliest Dog the most times is the Chinese Crested Dog.
