Winter Dog Care Precautions
Papillon (Detailed Introduction)
As the weather gets colder day by day, before long we will迎来寒冷的冬季. For dog owners, it is important to properly keep their dogs warm to prevent sudden cold weather causing their dogs to be unable to adapt, leading to illnesses. Therefore, for the sake of dogs' health, every owner should be aware of winter dog care precautions.
1. Try to keep pets indoors and avoid going outside, especially during cold waves. One thing to pay special attention to is that sometimes pets may hide under cars to escape the cold. When you want to start your car, warm it up for a few minutes first to give the pet a chance to come out.
2. If your dog is a short-haired breed, please put on clothes or a sweater, preferably a turtleneck that focuses on keeping the neck warm. Of course, it is even better if it can cover from head to toes including the abdomen! Some people may think buying clothes for pets is extravagant, but in the cold winter, it is a necessity for pets!
3. Never leave your dog alone in the car. In winter, a car that is not started is basically a refrigerator and provides no protection against the cold. Leaving your dog in the car may cause it to get sick from the cold.
4. Puppies do not yet have a fully developed temperature regulation system, so more bedding and thermal blankets (or heat lamp illumination) should be provided, and their body temperature should be monitored. If hypothermia occurs, take them to the veterinary hospital as soon as possible.
5. If your dog is a guard dog, watchdog, or other outdoor active dog, remember to increase the amount of food, especially protein intake, to make the coat thicker and more effective for warmth.
6. For outdoor cats, try to choose warmer spots near walls and use wooden boards to block the cold wind. It’s best to also consider purchasing a bed for the dog to spend the winter.
