Which Dogs Are Less Likely to Cause Allergies

Dog lovers who are allergic often hesitate to keep dogs, but some dogs are less likely to affect those sensitive people. Most allergies to dogs come from their fur or odor. Therefore, raising dogs that shed less and have less body odor can reduce allergy chances to some extent.
1. What Are Low-Allergen Dogs
First, we should know that there is no dog that is 100% non-allergenic; it’s just that some dogs have relatively fewer allergens compared to others. The main cause of allergies is dander attached to the dog's fur or the fur itself, so dogs that shed less can greatly reduce the degree of allergy.
1. Belington Terrier
The Belington Terrier is a small dog with long legs and strong endurance, with a gentle and adorable appearance similar to a shorn sheep. Don’t think it lacks energy; with speed, vigor, and stamina, they are hunters’ favorites. In the 19th century, miners in the Belington region of the UK suffered from rat infestations, and the agile Belington Terrier became the best rat-catching tool. Also, this breed sheds less, making grooming easier.
2. Bichon Frise
The Bichon Frise is a small breed originally from the Mediterranean area, once called the Barbet dog, later shortened to Bichon Frise. It's a common pet dog. The Bichon Frise is usually white in color. They have a balanced gait, elegant movements, and are lively and charming. Overall, the Bichon Frise is a small, robust, cute dog with a fluffy small tail curled over the back and curious black eyes.
Like the Teddy dog, this breed also sheds less, making it a good choice for those allergic to dogs.

3. Chinese Crested Dog
The Chinese Crested Dog is one of the few hairless dog breeds in the world. Likely originating in China as a small ornamental dog, it is named for the crest of hair on its head which looks like the hats worn by Qing dynasty officials. It was introduced to the US starting in 1975. It is a toy dog, small in size, generally no taller than 33 cm. Its skin colors vary; common patterns include black base with blue patches and pink base with coffee-colored patches. The Chinese Crested Dog loves cleanliness, does not shed, has a gentle temperament, and enjoys being close to people. Since it has little to no fur, shedding is not a concern.
4. Maltese (detailed introduction)
The Maltese, also known as Malta Ear or translated as "Angel of Malta," stands 20–26 cm tall and weighs 2.5–4 kg. It is one of Europe's oldest dog breeds, originally from Malta, a British Mediterranean territory, hence its name. Although this breed has abundant fur, it does not shed much.
5. Miniature Schnauzer
The Miniature Schnauzer, known in Germany as the Zwerg Schnauzer, was bred by crossing the standard Schnauzer with small dogs. In the US and Canada, it was once the most popular breed. The Miniature Schnauzer belongs to the terrier class; they are energetic, lively, and their appearance and personality are very similar to their relative, the Standard Schnauzer—alert and active. Also, they shed very little.
As for dog dander, regular cleaning usually prevents problems unless the dog has a skin disease, which needs prompt treatment to avoid increased dander.
