Which courier can ship live pets?
You need to get a quarantine certificate, then go directly to the airport or train station to handle check-in (or you can directly hand over to a pet hospital for shipment, but the price is more expensive). The specific price depends on the dog's size and weight! You also need your dog’s immunization certificate, health certificate, and an airline crate. Arrive at the airport four hours ahead. A friend of mine once air-shipped a 25KG dog back to Chongqing. The cost for certification, special airline crate, and shipping fees totaled over 800 yuan. If a kennel helps you ship, you just need to pick up the dog at the airport. Shipping cost: domestic air transport: average 9.
2 yuan/kg. Below are some airline regulations. First go to an animal hospital, animal and plant quarantine unit (or Agricultural Bureau livestock center) to get three related certificates – 1. Animal immunization certificate 2. Transport equipment disinfection certificate (for the airline crate or homemade animal cage disinfection) 3. Animal quarantine certificate. Then go to the airline’s cargo department to handle shipment procedures and pay the fees.
Upon arrival, the recipient can pick up the pet with their ID card. The above procedures are relatively simple, but the airline has high requirements for crate packaging. Of course, if you use a pet-specific airline crate, those troubles are not necessary. But homemade cages are more complicated. Please see the requirements: Generally, the crate must have a steel frame structure, with the bottom and four sides covered with iron sheets, allowing only ventilation openings on top. The bottom also needs a burlap sack or cotton pad tied beneath, to prevent urine or feces from leaking and contaminating other cargo. If shipping domestically, you can also choose train or freight transport.
Domestic freight shipment regulations: 1. The shipper should fill out the domestic freight shipment form and present their resident ID card or other valid ID to the cargo department of the China airline or its agent to handle shipment procedures. If required to provide a company introduction letter or other valid proof, the shipper should provide it. 2. For shipping perishable and live animals, urgent items, or time-sensitive cargo, the shipper must first book the flight, date, and tonnage with the airline’s cargo department, and handle shipment procedures at the agreed time and place.
3. For shipments subject to civil aviation transport restrictions and requiring police, quarantine, or other official clearance, the shipper must present valid certification documents. 4. The shipper is responsible for the authenticity and accuracy of the shipment form and all provided data and documents. 5. If cargo cannot be shipped together due to transport conditions or cargo nature, the shipper must fill out separate shipment forms.
Rail transport: Except for certain cities, most domestic railways allow pet shipment and are cheaper than air transport. However, you need an animal quarantine certificate recognized by the railway department. Inspection costs about 20 yuan. For the quarantine location, consult your local railway freight office. Rail transport usually uses tightly sealed luggage cars. Though owners may accompany the pet, it does not resolve the risks of high temperatures in summer or cold in winter.
Important notes for animal shipping: 1. Packaging preparation: Use special plastic airline crates; regular iron pet cages are not qualified. 2. Quarantine preparation: The airport requires you to bring the pet for quarantine, costing 20-30 yuan. The quarantine certificate should be attached to the waybill. 3. Time preparation: After choosing the flight, arrive at the airport at least 3 hours in advance. Otherwise, after quarantine, you may miss boarding.
Plan waiting and flight time carefully, provision enough water and food for the pet. Heat and poor ventilation can harm the pet. 4. Shipping fee: Domestic air freight: average 9.2 yuan/kg (Beijing–Shanghai). 5. After travel: collect the pet with the waybill as soon as possible. If you are not on the same flight and the pet flies alone, notify the recipient of the waybill number (it can be faxed). The recipient must remember to bring an ID card.
