What Tools to Use for Bathing Dogs
Prepare the related bathing supplies
Bathing your dog yourself not only requires understanding of the precautions during the bath, but also knowing what tools to use for bathing dogs. This helps to avoid problems caused by bathing. Many health issues arise from improper handling, so it’s important to be careful.
If you take your dog to a grooming salon for a bath, you only need to prepare a clean absorbent towel. If you prefer using your own pet shampoo, you can bring it along. If you bathe your dog yourself, you will need to prepare more items.
First, essential bathing tools like shampoo, towels, and a dryer must be ready. In winter, it’s best to turn on the heater, close doors and windows to prevent catching a cold while bathing. Besides these, you also need to prepare hemostatic forceps, cotton, and ear cleaning solution to help clean the dog’s ear canal, since ears should not be left uncleaned for long, and this helps remove water that enters the ears during bathing. Also prepare nail clippers and hemostatic powder to help trim the dog's nails. If you’re not confident handling this yourself, it’s better to go to a pet store. Finally, prepare a pet hair clipper because fur on the belly, paw pads, and around the anus needs cleaning. One point to note is that some owners remove the urinary guide hairs on male dogs' penises; however, these hairs have a guiding function to prevent urine spraying, so do not remove them.
