Caucasian Shepherd Dog

Caucasian Shepherd Dog is the largest dog breed in the world, and its appearance is very striking. In the past, many Caucasian Shepherd Dogs were given to ordinary families in Germany. With careful breeding in Germany, the future of this cautious and independent dog was ensured. As it became more popular, breeders paid more attention to selecting dogs with a gentle temperament.

Caucasian Shepherd Dog is a strong and powerful sporting dog with well-developed muscles and proportionate bones. Its body length is slightly longer than its height at the shoulder. It has a huge  wedge-shaped skull, tapering from the head to the tip of the muzzle, with a blunt end. It has high-set ears, sometimes cropped. 

Its eyes are deep-set and almond-shaped. The black nose is prominent with wide-open nostrils. The coat is particularly thick and dense. Strong front limbs are straight and long; the big toes have hair between them, which serves to insulate and protect the toes. Strong paws allow it to stand steadily on uneven ground. The rump is slightly higher than the back. The thick tail points to the hock and curls into a sickle shape or a coil when excited or in motion.

Caucasian Shepherd Dog height range: 64-90 cm. Weight range: 45-100 kg. Minimum adult shoulder height: males over 25½ inches, females over 24½ inches. Males over 27¼ or females over 25½ inches are acceptable. Weight must be proportional to height to give the dog a balanced and magnificent appearance.
