In many people's eyes, dogs fighting seems like a natural thing. Even over just small matters, they might resolve issues through confrontation. Actually, dogs are not unreasonable creatures; they only lose their temper under specific circumstances.

       1. Territory Disputes

       Dogs have a very strong sense of territory. Even after being domesticated by humans for many years, this awareness has not disappeared. After marking their territory, dogs will firmly defend their land and fight against any invading forces. Therefore, if other animals or humans enter this area, dogs will first issue a warning. If the warning is ineffective, dogs will launch an attack, fighting the intruder to declare their ownership.

       2. Mating Competition

       Before dogs were domesticated, they would do their best to compete for mating rights to ensure their genes were passed on. For the entire species, this struggle is very important because during the fight, advantageous genes are preserved, weaker genes eliminated, and the group becomes stronger generation after generation through selection. However, since pet dogs are now controlled by their owners, opportunities to compete for mates with other dogs are limited, greatly reducing the chances of fights.

       3. Food Competition

       Pet dogs at home do not have to worry about a lack of food, but food guarding is an instinct. Once another dog tries to snatch their food, they will decisively take it back. Similarly, if a dog's toy is taken over by other animals, they will also have a "toy snatching battle."

       4. Status Competition

       Dogs are social animals, and hierarchy is particularly important to them. When two dogs meet, they may have friction to determine their status relationship. Owners generally do not need to intervene in such friction, as dogs can usually resolve these issues on their own.

       5. Protecting the Owner

       Most dogs have a strong sense of protecting their owners. Once their owner is bullied, the dog will rush forward fearlessly to defend them. However, sometimes the owner may just be joking with others, but dogs cannot understand this, so accidents where dogs mistakenly hurt others can occur. Additionally, some dogs are very possessive and dislike other dogs approaching their owner. Once they detect this, they will regard those dogs as enemies, leading to various fighting behaviors.
