What a little Golden Retriever eats depends on how old your puppy is and your financial situation. If you want to raise it well, buy more expensive food; if your budget is tight, then feed it more modestly. Next, I will introduce the different feeding methods for little Golden Retrievers at different ages!

From birth to two months old, I recommend breastfeeding because it is the most nutritious and the best option. If that’s not possible, buy milk powder similar to mother's milk formula because the puppy is still very young and cannot be fed dry dog food directly. Its stomach is particularly delicate, and good feeding at this stage will lead to strong resistance later and less chance of illness.

From three months to nearly four months, you can start feeding puppy dry dog food appropriately! However, I must emphasize not to feed dry dog food directly, as dry kibble is hard to digest and can cause illness. Soak the dry dog food in warm boiled water before feeding or soak it with milk; either is fine. At this stage, remember to feed warm water and never tap water directly. Sometimes people start feeding human food at this stage, thinking it’s good for the pet, but that’s not true. A little Golden Retriever’s stomach is different from ours; it cannot eat too much greasy, salty, or heavily flavored food. All these can shorten its lifespan.

When the little Golden Retriever is four to six months old, you can gradually start feeding dry dog food because its digestive system has grown strong. There’s no need to worry about stomach issues. At the same time, you can add some canned dog food and calcium supplements because the puppy is developing its bones and height at this stage.

After the little Golden Retriever reaches seven months, its food intake is two to three times the usual amount, and you can stop feeding puppy food and start feeding adult dog food. At this time, the more it eats, the faster it grows. It’s also a very active period with lots of energy and the best time for growing its coat. If you want its fur to be shiny and beautiful, you can feed it fur-enhancing products.
