What are the Family Feeding Countermeasures?
1. Mothers should pay attention to iron storage during pregnancy
Mothers need to store iron in their bodies during pregnancy to provide enough iron for the fetus and prevent insufficient intake within the first 5 months after birth, as the baby's iron excretion rate during this period is three times higher than that of adults, making it easy to cause iron deficiency.
2. Breastfeeding as much as possible after birth
This is the best method to prevent iron deficiency anemia. The high lactic acid and vitamin C content in breast milk promotes iron absorption in the intestine, which is higher than other types of milk, and the utilization rate in the body is also higher. However, breastfeeding mothers should consume iron-rich foods because if they lack iron themselves, their milk cannot provide sufficient iron to the baby.
3. Add iron-rich complementary foods at the appropriate age
When the baby is 4-6 months old, start adding egg yolk, which is the only iron-rich food suitable for this stage. After 6 months, provide the baby with mashed liver, minced meat, meat floss, and other complementary foods. Nutrition experts and pediatric healthcare doctors point out that feeding the baby iron-containing foods along with eggs, plant-based foods, and fruits or vegetable soups rich in vitamin C will greatly enhance iron absorption in the intestine.
