What are the care methods for dogs' ears, eyes, and teeth?
Many friends think that raising a pet dog is enough as long as it eats well, drinks well, and lives well. But this is just the most basic. A qualified pet owner should pay more attention to the dog's physical health and do a good job in caring for the dog. Today, the editor of Boqi Net will talk about the care methods for dogs' ears, eyes, and teeth. Let's take a look below.
First, keep the dog still, hold the dog's head with your left hand, press around the ear with your left thumb and index finger to fully expose the ear canal, sprinkle a small amount of ear powder into the ear, massage a few times, then pull out the hair along the growth direction. Use your right hand to pull out the hair you can touch, and carefully pull out the deeper hair with hemostatic forceps or other tools. To clean the ear canal, wrap an appropriate amount of cotton around the hemostatic forceps according to the size of the dog's ear canal, drip ear wash, and rotate it inside the ear to clean until the cotton taken out from the ear is free of dirt, then the cleaning is confirmed complete.
If there are a lot of secretions in the dog's ear canal, accompanied by inflammation, bleeding, redness, and swelling, first trim all the hair inside the dog's ear cleanly, then drop a few drops of anti-inflammatory ear drops into the ear canal, cover the ear back, gently massage at the ear root for 3-5 minutes, then use hemostatic forceps to hold cotton to wipe off the secretions clean. After wiping clean, drop anti-inflammatory ear drops again, gently massage, then use a cotton ball to dry the liquid inside the ear, and finally sprinkle anti-inflammatory powder.
First, check if the eyes have inflammation or eye discharge, or if there is ingrown eyelashes. Normal eyes should be clear and bright without eye discharge. If there is inflammation or eye discharge, use warm boiled water or 2% boric acid solution to moisten cotton or gauze and gently wipe, or drop anti-inflammatory eye drops; if the eyelashes are ingrown, the ingrown eyelashes should be removed with tweezers. When applying eye drops or eye lotion, hold the dog’s lower jaw with one hand, use the index finger and thumb to open the dog’s eyelid, and with the other hand drop 1-2 drops on the upper back of the eye each time. Some breeds have more hair around their eyes, such as Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terriers; eyelashes should be combed regularly and surrounding hair trimmed appropriately.
First, check for inflammation, dental plaque, and tartar on the teeth. When puppies change teeth, carefully check if milk teeth have fallen out, as retained milk teeth will hinder the normal growth of permanent teeth. Train the dog to brush teeth regularly—start by gently rubbing the dog's gums back and forth with your finger, initially only rubbing the outside part. Once the dog gets used to this, open its mouth and rub the inner teeth and gums. When the dog is accustomed to finger rubbing, wrap gauze around your finger to rub the teeth and gums. When using a toothbrush, hold it at a 45° angle, brush in small circles at the junction of the gums and teeth, brushing several teeth at a time. Finally, brush vertically to clean dental plaque between teeth, then continue brushing the inside teeth and gums. To clean teeth with an ultrasonic scaler, first anesthetize the dog completely, lay it flat on the grooming table, drip eye drops into the eyes. Then, elevate the dog's neck, tie the upper and lower jaws separately with two bandages, and pull the bandages to open the mouth fully, exposing the teeth. Next, hold the scaler handle with one hand pointing the scaler head at the teeth, use a cotton swab with the other hand to open the mouth to expose teeth for cleaning; clean one side, then the other. After cleaning both sides, check the inside of the teeth for tartar; if present, clean it as well. Finally, apply a small amount of iodine glycerin to the cleaned teeth and gums. After dental cleaning, the dog should take anti-inflammatory medicine for 3-4 days continuously and eat a liquid diet for 3 consecutive days.
The above are the care methods for dogs' ears, eyes, and teeth. I hope it can help everyone.
