There Are Reasons Why Dogs Turn Hostile
Golden Retriever (detailed introduction)

How much do pet owners know about the language between dogs? Have you noticed when dogs turn hostile during play? Dogs do not turn hostile without reason. Pet researchers believe provoking pets causes endless troubles.

On the streets, in communities, and alleys, you can see pets of various sizes and colors. Some bark at strangers, some attack people or other animals. In fact, the main reason for pet-caused injuries to people and vice versa is often due to insufficient knowledge of pets by humans.

After dogs enter thousands of households, the relationships among neighbors gradually become distant. At the same time, the interaction time between humans and pets lengthens. Besides unconditional pampering, owners often deliberately provoke their pets for fun. On the surface, provoking activates the entertainment atmosphere between people and pets, but pet researchers believe that provoking pets causes endless troubles.

Because provoking is negative training, it causes pets to lose proper behavioral norms. Once outside, bad habits become clearly visible, such as suddenly chasing or biting people and other dogs, running wildly, and barking loudly.

Excitable and aggressive dogs are unstable elements, which have nothing to do with the breed. Therefore, to prevent dogs from injuring people, owners must thoroughly understand the dog's type before purchasing and continue to learn in daily life to read and control their dog from its bark, movements, and gaze. Additionally, dogs are highly sensitive to tiny changes in environment, climate, time, objects, and scents, which can trigger sudden attacks on people, even their owners.

Preventive measures are as follows: first, dogs must wear a leash when taken outside. Whether it’s a tiny Chihuahua or a Great Dane; a trained working dog or a Tibetan Mastiff (detailed introduction), hearing sharp screams, sudden vibrations, external attack sounds (gunshots), or animal screams (dogs being hunted) can cause sudden reflexes. Second, after leaving home, when encountering acquaintances or other dogs, never speak loudly or wave your hands and feet, and never provoke the dogs. Because what humans express as friendliness is interpreted by dogs as an attack. Third, do not multitask when taking dogs out. Otherwise, if the pet attacks someone, you may not be able to respond in time.

Be a Happy Owner Not Afraid of Rabies

Pet researchers also found that most dog bites and human injuries occur in inappropriate places. Especially when your pet dog is lunging and barking, the attacked person must remain calm—do not scream, run away, or kick the dog. Although the dog appears to be attacking, it actually stems from inner fear. Barking is meant to scare and call its owner. If the attacked person screams or kicks, it is an active “fight back” action, which escalates the dog’s aggression. At this time, owners should not chase their pets, as this “further action” is like “teaming up to fight” in the dog’s mind. Owners should stand still, loudly call the dog’s name, and call it back. Once the dog returns, the owner should sternly criticize it, firmly giving the “sit” command to calm it down. If the dog immediately obeys, praise it so it understands which behaviors are wrong and how to correct them. Moreover, criticism and praise should be repeated daily; otherwise, the dog quickly forgets.

Non-dog owners visiting dog owners should contact in advance so the owner can arrange their dog, avoiding sudden loud barking that startles guests at the door. Regardless of whether the owner is holding or leashing the dog, if it suddenly bolts out, its burst of power can embarrass, upset, or even accidentally injure someone. No matter who the guest is, the dog will sniff them extensively because they bring different scents. At this time, the guest should not pet the dog; the owner should say “just sniff.” The dog will then stop.
