Nowadays, more and more counterfeit goods flood the domestic e-commerce market, and if you are not careful, you may buy fake products. Pet food and supplies have also started to encounter this problem, so pet owners have begun to purchase pet supplies from overseas, embarking on the path of cross-border shopping. But is this really safe? In fact, cross-border shopping also carries certain risks.
Chinese law stipulates that feed refers to products and raw materials intended for animal consumption that have been planted, bred, processed, or made, including pet food. Imported feed must come from overseas production enterprises registered in China. Imported animal and plant-based feed must also provide entry animal and plant quarantine permits and official quarantine certificates from the exporting country. Only after passing laboratory testing, affixing Chinese labels, and issuing import goods inspection and quarantine certificates can these be sold and used.
Most pet food is animal-derived, and pet food without quarantine poses significant hygiene and safety risks. If it comes from countries with prevalent animal diseases, it may lead to the spread of epidemics. According to the "List of Animals, Plants, and Their Products Prohibited from Being Carried or Posted into the People's Republic of China," animal-derived feed is prohibited from being carried or mailed into the country. Therefore, individuals cannot mail animal-derived pet food. Even plant-based pet food must be on the approved import list for feed and feed additives in China and must provide animal and plant quarantine permits and official quarantine certificates from the exporting country based on risk levels.
In response, inspection and quarantine departments remind consumers: food for beloved pets should be purchased through regular channels. Before mailing related products, be sure to understand relevant regulations to prevent pet food from being returned or destroyed, avoiding unnecessary losses.
