The Role of Dog Obedience
Saint Bernard
Dogs are social animals; they consider you, your family, and themselves as part of a team, just like in a wolf pack. This team also has a strict hierarchy—you must let the dog recognize that it is the lowest rank in this group. Only under this premise can your dog become obedient. The dog’s obedience and trust in you are based on this reason.
If the dog in your home is well trained, the owner’s mood will surely be good. But if the dog makes a fool of you in front of others and causes chaos, it is not the dog’s fault but your poor guidance. In other words, you have not established your authority well. To avoid such embarrassment, obedience training should start as soon as the dog arrives at your home.
Obedience training should begin with opportunity education. When the dog makes a mistake, criticize it without hesitation; when it has a good habit or obeys a command, do not hesitate to reward it. Additionally, provide the dog with necessary security and happiness because that is the responsibility of the team leader. After you do what you should do, your dog will admire you more and obey you. Dogs consider you their master and leader, so at the beginning, they naturally develop the desire to follow you. One major trouble with this desire is that before training the dog to be more obedient, your dog will always follow you everywhere. (Source: PetsZone)
