The Real Reason Why Schnauzers Shake
Schnauzer (Detailed Introduction)

There are many reasons why Schnauzers shake. For example, in winter when the weather is cold and there is no heating or air conditioning at home, dogs may shake just like humans do. As long as the owner helps keep the dog warm, they naturally will stop shaking. Additionally, some timid puppies may also shake due to fear, so owners need to comfort their dogs in time. However, if the dog is shaking not because of cold or fear, the owner should be alert because shaking can also be a sign of poisoning or illness, which requires immediate medical attention.

1. Poisoning

After a Schnauzer eats toxic food, it is very likely to shake. Once discovered, the owner should immediately take the dog to a pet hospital for treatment. To prevent food poisoning, owners should train their dogs not to beg or eat things indiscriminately. If the dog cannot correct these behaviors for the time being, the owner needs to pay close attention to its every move and keep foods like chocolate out of reach to avoid accidental ingestion.

2. Illness

Poor heart and lung function, joint problems, neurological or hereditary diseases can all cause Schnauzers to shake. To avoid these situations, owners should regularly take their dogs for check-ups and not wait until problems occur to consider whether the dog is sick. Clinical data shows that some Schnauzers have shaking as a sequela after recovering from distemper. If this occurs, owners need not worry too much.

3. Other Conditions

1. Calcium deficiency. This is common in postpartum female dogs, and the condition will improve immediately with timely calcium supplementation via infusion.

2. The dog may shake due to pain in some part of its body. In such cases, the owner should promptly take the dog to a veterinary hospital. After diagnosis, the vet will inform you of the reason for the shaking and devise a reasonable treatment plan.

3. Epilepsy. The symptoms are similar to those in humans; at this time the dog may have convulsions and some dogs may foam at the mouth or lose control of urination and defecation.
