The Dog Truly Belonging to Men — American Bully
American Bully

The American Bully, judging by the name, might be thought of as a dog that bullies and disobeys. Actually, it is not. In the cartoon "Tom and Jerry," the familiar big dog Spike is inspired by the Bully breed—fierce appearance with four sturdy legs, yet it has a gentle heart. Today, let's take a look at this dog breed, which, although with a short history, is beginning to become popular worldwide—the American Bully.
  1. Introduction
The American Bully breed was developed with the ultimate goal of becoming a family companion dog. Through years of selective breeding combining traits from the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier, it inherits impressive exaggerated muscular structure with strong power bursts and agility. It is a highly trainable breed capable of performing various tasks.
The American Bully has a loyal and stable temperament while retaining the easy-going and friendly disposition of the American Staffordshire Terrier. Their temperament is very good and steady, loyal and gentle to their family. For the American Bully, nothing is more important than pleasing its owner. Confident but not excessively active, this breed is patient, friendly, and tolerant. In summary, the American Bully is a reliable, trustworthy, ideal family companion dog that will stay by your side.
  2. History
The history of the American Bully is not long. It originated in Los Angeles in 1990, during a period of fast economic, social, and political development in the United States. While pursuing material life, people were also continuously developing their spiritual entertainment pursuits. After enduring the bloody era of Staffordshire Terriers and Pit Bulls, a small group of people began attempting to breed their ideal dog breed: one with the strong muscles and athletic ability of the Pit Bull, combined with the easy-going, friendly nature of the Staffordshire Terrier. It was during this period that the American Bully emerged.
At the beginning, it was named American Bully, which is what we call the American Bully today. However, many people in China still cannot clearly distinguish the American Bully from the Pit Bull, believing that the Bully is just a Pit Bull. Some even call it a "show Pit." Because the purpose of breeding the American Bully was not for fighting nor cruelty, there is a fundamental difference between them.
In the U.S., the American Bully gradually gained recognition and promotion, winning the affection and acceptance of many families, firmly embedding its image in people’s minds. The character Spike and his son Tyke from the popular children’s cartoon "Tom and Jerry" are well-loved. He looks fierce on the outside but is gentle and kind at heart. Now, with the promotion of the American Bully, more and more of these dogs have appeared in our country as well. Just as the breeders’ philosophy is now: everyone has their own perfect Bully in their heart, the Bully belongs to everyone.
