From the name Caucasian dog, it can be seen that it originally lived in the mountains known as the "peak of Europe," with harsh living environments. Therefore, this dog needs a strong physique to survive. The tough environment shaped the advantages we now discuss. For example, strong adaptability. To survive in the freezing cold region, they need powerful ability to adapt and to find resources. This is the principle of natural selection. For survival, they need leadership and cooperation to fight and occupy their territory. Thus, Caucasian dogs have high intelligence, excellent memory, clearly remembering places they've been. Also, they have sensitive reactions to strange smells and objects, making them suitable as police dogs. Additionally, Caucasian dogs are very loyal, trusting and faithful to their owners, resolute and courageous, which is touching.

However, Caucasian dogs also have some character shortcomings. Due to scarce survival resources that led to fierce competition, they have a strong competitive spirit and jealousy. They are very protective of their belongings and do not allow others to invade. Therefore, they easily have conflicts and fights with other animals. Also, they are extremely ferocious to strangers and prone to biting incidents. Hence, proper training is necessary. Nonetheless, trained Caucasian dogs are quite gentle, can play with children, and become family pets. But owners must pay attention to communication and soothing during interactions, providing the dog with a sufficient sense of belonging.
