Techniques for Training Huskies to Enter the Crate

Many dog owners feed indoors, but training Huskies to enter the crate is essential. The crate is the Husky’s independent private space. It is very important to cultivate the Husky’s awareness that “it’s safe when I return to the crate.” When guests visit your home or when you need to clean, simply putting the Husky in the crate can save a lot of trouble. Moreover, if the Husky is trained to wait quietly in the crate, it can stay calm when left alone at home; taking it out by car can also reduce its anxiety.
Training methods:
1. First, you need to let the Husky recognize that entering and exiting the crate is a happy thing. This is the most important point of Husky crate training.
2. Use food to attract the Husky’s attention and lure it into the crate. At this time, be sure to say “room.” Give it food only after the Husky enters.
3. After the Husky enters the crate, praise it while feeding it. Then use food to lure it out of the crate, praise it again, and repeatedly conduct this training.
4. After the Husky is familiar with the procedure of entering and exiting the crate, gently close the crate door while telling it “wait.”
5. Next, train it to wait inside the crate with the door closed. Start by leaving it for 1 minute, then gradually increase the time and distance you leave it.
6. If the Husky stays quietly in the crate, reward it well with treats. If it scratches or causes trouble inside the crate, reprimand it firmly. (Source: PetsZone)
