History: The Saluki originated in the Middle East region of Iran, dating back to 3000 BC.
An ancient history, traceable to 5000 years ago, the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs also depict hunting dogs very similar to them. The name originates from the Arabian city of Saluq, now submerged by desert and located in present-day Yemen.
Temperament: The Saluki is intelligent, loyal, stable, and obedient, with a noble demeanor, making it a precious breed. However, as a hunting dog by origin, it has a strong prey drive and needs strict training. In addition, family keeping must provide enough activity space and ensure sufficient daily exercise.
Breed Standard:
【Overall Appearance】Its strength enables it to kill a gazelle; it has a noble, polite, deep, confident temperament, looking into the distance when walking. Male height is 58.4~71.1 cm, females are smaller; this is the most representative size of the breed.
【Head】Narrow and long, with a broad back skull between the ears, silent when still. Overall reflects high quality, nose black or amber. Ears—long and covered by long hair growing on the head. Eyes—chestnut and bright, large and oval, not bulging. Teeth—strong and level.
【Neck】Long, erect, and muscular.
【Chest】Deep and narrow in the middle.
【Forequarters】Muscular at the root of the legs, forelegs long and strong.
【Hindquarters】Toes spread but unlike cat paws; strong muscles support jumping and running.
【Loins and Back】The back naturally arches, the loin surrounded by muscle.
【Tail】Naturally hangs down, with long hair growing inside.
【Coat】Smooth and soft.
【Color】White, cream, golden yellow, red, brown, yellowish brown, black with yellowish brown.
