On the street, we can see many people walking their dogs, which shows that there are many dog owners nowadays. Of course, there are also many risks. In the past two years, I believe many of you have seen news about dogs injuring people, especially children. This is an outcome we do not want to see. When taking dogs out, sometimes we cannot fully control their behavior. Many communities now require dogs to be on a leash, but we may still feel uneasy and cannot always watch them closely when going out. At this time, we need to train them. How to train a puppy not to jump on people?

1.Teach it to look at hand signals and listen to verbal commands.

When you just bring it home, the puppy is usually only a few months old. Puppies are naturally smart, and at this age, they learn very quickly. So we can teach it some postures like “sit,” “stand,” and “run.” During this process, we must be patient and not get irritated and want to hit it because this will have very bad results. It will create distance between us, and it will listen even less, possibly even bite people. Therefore, after it completes these actions, we can pat its head or body to encourage, verbally praise it, and also prepare some treats it loves.

2.Strictly reprimand.

After the puppy exhibits this behavior, we must strictly reprimand it to let it know this behavior is very wrong. When we take it out to play, it may be very excited because it is a dog and not like us, so it may not be able to control its behavior. At this time, using a leash is very important to prevent it from losing control. Of course, it may also jump on people because the owner spends too little time with it. When the owner accompanies it, it is very happy and will jump on people. Therefore, we can spend more time taking it out for walks, and maybe this behavior will disappear.

We must carefully teach the puppy not to jump on people and not be soft-hearted. Our attitude must be firm. Slowly, by persisting, it will get better. We must realize that if it knocks down a child, the consequences are unimaginable. Afterward, we may not only need to bear expenses but also deal with many ensuing issues.
