Methods to Cope with Dog Tear Stains

Dog
Timely cleaning of eye discharge and wiping its tears to prevent the fur under the dog's eyes from forming tear stains is undoubtedly the most fundamental method. It should be known that once tear stains form, they are very difficult to clean, especially for dogs with white or light-colored fur. If you want to fundamentally remove tear stains, it can be said to be impossible; you can only rely on new fur growing out gradually replacing the fur with tear stains.
1. Methods to lighten dog eye tear stains
The methods mentioned here can only lighten tear stains to some extent and cannot completely remove them. We can first use a wet wipe or a moist cotton swab to remove the dog's eye discharge, then drop boric acid water or saline solution at the corner of the eyes, and then use cotton to wipe the tear stains. Continuous cleaning over a period of time will gradually lighten the color of the tear stains.
However, when doing this, be sure not to let the boric acid water enter the dog's eyes. Regularly applying some eye drops (chloramphenicol) can prevent eye diseases. Eyes are also windows to health; if eye discharge differs from the usual transparent or dry brown color, the conjunctiva (white part of the eye) is reddened, or the cornea (black part of the eye) has white spots or damage, these are signs of illness and you should seek medical attention immediately.
2. Prevention and cleaning of dog eye tear stains
Tear stains are caused by large amounts of tears and eye discharge not being cleaned in time, causing the fur below the eyes to turn red. Once tear stains form, they are very difficult to clean, so timely cleaning of the eye area is necessary to prevent tear stains.
If tear stains have already formed, you can drop diluted boric acid water or saline solution at the corner of the eyes; then wipe the tear stains with cotton. Continuous cleaning will gradually lighten the color of the tear stains.
