Key Points for Feeding Yorkshire Terriers

Yorkshire Terrier (detailed introduction)
Although Yorkshire Terriers are small in size, they are never timid and love to cuddle with their owners. A healthy Yorkshire Terrier always appears excited. To keep a Yorkshire Terrier looking beautiful, not only do you need to groom its coat daily, but the diet requires the owner's attention as well.
Feeding Key Points
In managing the feeding of Yorkshire Terriers, first ensure they are provided with sufficient nutritious food. Yorkshire Terriers are mainly carnivorous, needing 200–250 grams of meat daily, supplemented with an appropriate amount of low-sugar vegetables. Feeding frequency: for dogs over 1 year old, feed once a day; for puppies, feed 2–4 times a day as appropriate.
For young Yorkshire Terriers, do not give them snacks or hard foods to protect their teeth. Since this breed tends to bark a lot, training should begin early to develop the habit of not barking excessively. Additionally, note that these lively dogs often suddenly rush out the door and jump into visitors’ arms, which can cause scratches or other problems.
Yorkshire Terriers are very food-driven, especially those that are bored and lazy, and they are clever at using your affection for them to get food. Feeding them whenever they beg only promotes bad habits and can quickly lead to obesity.
Place food and fresh water where small Yorkshire Terriers cannot easily knock them over, but make sure they can always access water when thirsty. Puppies in the infant stage should be fed three times a day; at five to six months old, reduce to one to two times daily. At the beginning of feeding, give ample portions but only allow eating at mealtime. Clean feeding utensils daily and always provide enough clean water.
Precautions:
Do not mix dry dog food with milk; use clean water instead. When puppies are six to eight weeks old, most owners and veterinarians do not recommend adding milk to food because excessive milk consumption can cause diarrhea and digestive problems. If you want to gradually switch to dry dog food, slowly reduce the amount of water used to mix the food. When using dry food exclusively, it can be left in the bowl all day for the puppy to eat by itself. Alternatively, choose products like Royal Puppy Milk biscuits, which are nutritious and tasty and generally accepted even by picky dogs.
If you feel the dog’s coat is not smooth and shiny enough, you can boil an egg for the Yorkshire Terrier every two or three days. It is recommended not to feed the egg white, and divide the egg yolk into three to four portions to feed. The main benefit of the egg yolk is to beautify the coat.
