Introduction to the English Springer Spaniel Breed
The Springer Spaniel, also known as the English Sporting Spaniel, is a breed with strong athletic ability. Nowadays, many terrestrial hunting dogs descend from the Springer Spaniel. In the early 19th century, Springer Spaniels and Cocker Spaniels were often born in the same litter, and the only way to distinguish them was by their size.
After the establishment of the American Kennel Club, its role was to classify dogs by size, where any dog over 12.70 kilograms was categorized as a Springer Spaniel. Although Springer Spaniels were used for hunting in the U.S. early on, the breed was not well known until the foundation of the English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association in 1924.
In 1902, after the English Kennel Club recognized the English Springer Spaniel as a distinct breed, this dog truly became more widely known and loved.
