How Huskies Lose Weight
If a pet dog is too fat, it not only loses aesthetic appeal but also makes the dog lazy and unable to perform its duties well, so timely weight loss should be considered.
Generally, a dog is considered overweight if its body weight exceeds the breed’s standard weight by more than 10%. The reason is often a strong digestive system eating too many starchy and fatty foods.
Main methods of weight loss are:
1. Reduce starch and fat content; the dog’s daily diet should reduce starch and fat content and increase fish broth, internal broth, and vegetable foods.
2. Eliminate snacks; pet dogs often beg their owners for food, so sweet candy snacks should be stopped.
3. Prevent constipation; the dog’s food can appropriately increase some fiber-rich vegetables and sugar foods with higher fatty acid content to promote bowel movement.
During the weight loss process, transitions should be gradual; calorie intake should not be suddenly greatly reduced but only reduce one feeding per day.
How to Control Husky’s Food Intake
Controlling a dog’s food intake is a big issue. Eating too much can cause obesity; too little can cause malnutrition. Therefore, controlling a Husky’s food intake is important. The editor specifically introduces food intake issues for dogs in different conditions.
First, one important point for dogs is not to feed Huskies leftover human food. Many people think human food is very nutritious or to avoid waste and save time, so they feed leftovers to dogs. However, leftovers often contain sharp fish bones or bones that can cause oral injuries and even infections. So for your Husky’s safety, don’t be lazy and feed leftovers.
Second, whatever food is fed to Huskies, whether animal food, grains, or vegetables, should be cleaned and heated to prevent poisoning, especially in summer when food worsens more easily.
1. Young dogs: Young dogs grow very fast and eat a lot. Without proper control of feed quantity, dogs easily overeat, so food intake control is necessary. However, blindly giving little food can cause malnutrition. The best method is to refer to the recommended feeding amounts for different weights and growth stages on dog food bags, which large brands usually provide.
2. Elderly dogs: Elderly dogs have poorer digestion, and many old-age diseases worsen due to too much protein in food. However, elderly dogs naturally have reduced appetite, so controlling their food intake is not too difficult.
3. Obese dogs: Some dog breeds are naturally prone to obesity, such as Pugs, Bulldogs, and Pekingese, so their food intake should be more carefully managed than other Huskies.
4. Neutered Huskies: Neutered dogs easily gain weight and have good appetites, so to reduce other diseases caused by obesity, food intake should be restricted once surgery wounds heal.
Controlling a dog’s food intake is sometimes quite difficult. Usually, owners can’t resist the dog’s hopeful eyes. However, one benefit of having a greedy dog is that if you want it to eat less, just feed it pure dog food.
Feeding Precautions
First, appropriate daily exercise is required. Do not allow the Husky to exercise according to its own will haphazardly, sometimes several times a day, sometimes once every few days. Before outdoor leash exercise, let them freely move for a few minutes to defecate. During exercise, maintain correct walking posture, keep an appropriate distance from the owner, and correct walking habits if the dog tends to walk ahead, behind, left, or right.
Second, when the dog is young, more care should be given. Also, since puppies are in developmental stages, they should be fed nutritionally balanced food. Here, we recommend Midawn dog food to improve the dog’s coat and tear stains and especially to enhance bone development!
Third, frequently change exercise routes; do not use the same fixed route daily. Prevent the dog from sniffing excretions or other objects left by other Huskies, and do not let the dog contact them. Also, do not take the Husky to places with crowds of people or other Huskies to avoid catching diseases.
Fourth, try not to let the dog be exposed to air conditioning in daily life as it may cause diarrhea and “air conditioning sickness.” Owners must pay attention to this.
Fifth, vaccinate Huskies on time every year and regularly deworm them internally and externally. When the Husky is in heat, if you don’t want it to become a “grandfather” or “grandmother” soon, closely guard her during heat or take the Husky to a pet hospital for neutering surgery.
