How to train a Wire Fox Terrier: nowadays, many people raise small animals, among which dogs are the most popular. A friend of mine has a Wire Fox Terrier. He takes the dog for walks and training every day but didn’t know the proper training methods. After researching, he learned these methods, and here I’ll share the training ways for the Wire Fox Terrier with you all.

　　Wire Fox Terrier toilet training:

　　First, place a litter tray in a fixed location, lined with some old newspapers covered with a layer of sand or ashes. At certain times (for example, after waking up in the morning, after feeding, and before sleeping at night), lead the Wire Fox Terrier to the place with the litter tray. If the dog urinates or defecates inside the tray, the trainer should show affection or give material rewards. Sometimes the dog may not relieve itself during this time; after some time, release it.

　　If the dog is found to relieve itself outside the designated spot, give a stern reprimand after it finishes and then take it to the designated spot. The dog must understand that this behavior is wrong. Through patient training and guidance, the Wire Fox Terrier will gradually develop the habit of relieving itself only in the fixed place. Special attention should be paid during training: the litter tray must not be moved, and keep some sand or ashes from the last use so the dog can find the spot by smell.

　　Moreover, when the Wire Fox Terrier goes outside, it tends to urinate on roadside objects to mark territory. This is the dog's nature and should be distinguished from improper urination. However, on urban streets, this habit affects sanitation. Therefore, when the owner takes the dog out, it is essential to put a collar and lead it with a leash. Training the Wire Fox Terrier to relieve itself in the toilet would be even better.

　　Wire Fox Terrier protective training:

　　During training, the owner ties the dog to a fixed object, then stands about two meters away. A training assistant pretends to hit the owner. If the dog actively barks aggressively toward the assistant attacking the owner, the assistant pretends to be scared and runs away to boost the dog's confidence. The owner should reward the dog immediately, and if necessary, release the dog to bite the assistant (wearing protective sleeves in advance) to enhance the reward effect and meet practical needs;

　　If the dog does not respond when the assistant pretends to hit the owner, the assistant should stop and pretend to hit the dog instead.

　　When provoked by the assistant's actions, if the dog shows strong barking and biting desires, the assistant will pretend to be scared and run away, and the owner must immediately reward the dog and, if necessary, release it to bite.

　　With repeated training, the dog will understand: others hitting my owner is the same as hitting me. Therefore, when the dog sees the owner attacked by others, it will actively bite the attacker. Once the dog reaches this stage, transition training from a tethered state to a free state, but first put a muzzle on the dog to prevent injuring the assistant.

　　The specific method: after putting on the muzzle, take the dog off-leash for a walk. During the walk, purposely arrange for the assistant to attack the owner. The dog will then automatically bite the assistant according to the assistant’s actions, and the owner should reward the dog promptly. As the ability progresses, change the assistants and training environments constantly to cultivate the dog's ability to fiercely bite any person attacking the owner in any environment.
