How to Train a Poodle to Be Well-behaved
It's common to see poodles in the park with their owners chasing after them and shouting. Jumping around in the living room is natural for dogs, but how do you make your pet dog well-behaved and quietly stay? This requires regular training.
First, the poodle should obediently and accurately follow each of your commands. These commands should at least include “sit,” “lie down,” “stay still,” “come here,” and “go play by yourself,” etc.
Second, the poodle should show enough patience and friendliness to your guests and strangers—of course, excluding intruders. While you talk with others, the poodle should quietly sit or lie down by your feet until the conversation ends. It should not walk around impatiently or try to pull you away.
Third, when meeting other dogs, your poodle should be able to interact with them calmly and friendly, rather than showing strong aggression or fear and retreat like some poodles do.
Fourth, when taking your poodle out on the street, a well-trained poodle should move among people and traffic calmly, just like when it is in your garden or downstairs, maintaining polite curiosity about the surroundings.
Fifth, your poodle should not overreact to sudden events nearby. It can show curiosity and investigative desire, but must not appear nervous, frightened, or reflexively aggressive.
After some training, the pet dog's behavior will make you extremely proud. As mentioned above, when the owner and friends chat, the dog will quietly stay to one side, like an additional listener.
