How to Train a Dog to Shake Hands
A dog’s handshake training includes many everyday training factors from owners. Such a simple action requires owners to train dozens of times before the dog gets used to shaking hands!
Dogs in circuses are always so charming; they can perform various little tricks, and your own dog can actually learn them too! Shaking hands is a training that enhances intimacy between you and your dog, but please note that this kind of training requires the owner's love and patience. Never rush it! The training method is: have the dog wear a collar and sit opposite the owner, then ask the owner to squat down.
When the dog is sitting steadily, gently tap its left front paw. Dogs naturally tend to scratch you. When the dog’s left front paw is naturally lifted, take the chance to hold the dog’s front paw and say "Shake hands."
Next, you need to repeat this action repeatedly. If the dog doesn’t lift its left front paw upon the "Shake hands" command, try gently moving its left front paw. Then the dog’s left front paw will naturally lift and hang in the air. At this time, you must continue to repeat the command "Shake hands!"
At this point, the owner actively grabs its left front paw and tells it "Shake hands." When the dog completes the action, immediately give it a treat as encouragement. You should show a very happy expression, letting the dog feel that you are very satisfied with its behavior, which can stimulate its enthusiasm~
