Training dogs has become a trend, and many pet communities often chat about what skills their dogs have. Ordinary actions like sit, stand, shake hands, wave, etc., have become popular training skills in every household. But have you ever thought about teaching your dog to recognize words?

Teaching a Teddy dog to recognize words?? Such an advanced skill, can dogs really do it? Haha, it is unlikely that dogs truly recognize words. But you can make some small props and apply some little tricks to make it seem like your dog really recognizes words.

Let's look at the specific training process of "Teddy dog word recognition":

First, we need to make some props. Prepare some large cards and write words on them, such as "milk tablet", "chicken", etc., with only one word on each card. Then, here comes the trick: you need to put different scents on each card! When your Teddy dog "reads" it, you give it the corresponding food reward!

For example, beforehand, you rub the card labeled "milk tablet" back and forth to apply the scent. The card can be made of darker material so the rubbing marks don’t show. You can also apply chicken scent on the card that says "chicken."

Each card should be stored separately in different small boxes to prevent scent mixing. This way, each time you can teach your Teddy dog to become familiar with one scent. (It’s best for each card to correspond to its respective food scent.) Once the dog chooses correctly, the owner can reward it with the matching food.

The core of this training is: selecting cards based on scent. Don’t have too many cards; about 3 or 4 is enough.

Then, you can lay out the four cards spaced evenly in front of your Teddy dog, ask a question, and wait for it to pick the correct card. Because the little guy has memorized the four scents and respective rewards. "Baby, what do you love to eat at KFC? Is it chicken? Go, recognize chicken."

Once the Teddy dog hears "chicken," it immediately runs to the "chicken" card and brings it back. Remember, always give a reward~ this way your Teddy can continue learning to recognize words. Teaching dogs to recognize words is not only for Teddy dogs, other dogs can do it too. (Source: PetsZone)
