Dachshunds are among the easier dog breeds to care for. Because dachshunds are naturally independent, they are easy to take care of, and they quickly understand and obey their owner's commands. So how can you raise one well?

How to Raise a Dachshund Well
Dachshund (detailed introduction)

Generally, puppies will relieve themselves about 30 minutes after eating or about 15 minutes after drinking water. You can pay special attention at these times. If you find your dog sniffing around on the ground, please be highly alert; he is looking for a place to relieve himself.

Dogs usually relieve themselves once after waking up in the morning (including urination and defecation), so when you see your dog wake up, you can pick him up and bring him to the place where you want him to go to the bathroom. Let him stay there for a while, and at the same time use a special tone to give commands like "hurry up" to the dog.

Finally, Lele Pet Station reminds everyone that puppies relieve themselves very frequently, so most people like to let them go to the bathroom on pee pads or newspapers first. Some dogs will use pee pads, but some really dislike them. A friend's dog would even tear the pee pads into pieces. So in the end, I chose newspapers.

At the beginning, the dog doesn’t know that the newspaper is for relieving themselves, so you can soak the newspaper with his urine and then place this soaked sheet on top of many sheets of newspaper (about 7 or 8). Don’t throw it away yet. Next time you see the dog sniffing around, pick him up promptly and place him on the newspaper. He will sniff the dried sheet of newspaper; you should watch him. If he tries to run away, bring him back and place him on the newspaper again.

After that, what you need to do is whenever you see the dog about to go to the bathroom (sniffing around) or going in the wrong place, you should immediately pick him up and place him on the newspaper. Every day, keep one piece of newspaper with his excrement on top of the laid newspapers. Usually after a few days, the dog will understand that he should go to the newspaper to relieve himself. When he gets familiar, congratulations, the first step is successful. You can then just place clean newspapers daily because the dog learns to go to the newspaper by smelling its scent.

The next step is simpler: you gradually reduce the size of the newspaper (from the size of two sheets, to one sheet, then half a sheet). You can also gradually move the newspaper closer to the door or bathroom. Once the dog is accustomed to going to the newspaper near the door or bathroom, you can remove the newspaper. Then when the dog needs to go, he will look for the newspaper near the door or bathroom.

Of course, when you see your dog showing signs of needing to go to the bathroom, you can immediately take him outside. You can first choose 5 basic fixed times during the day to take the puppy out (it’s best to be 20 to 30 minutes after the puppy has eaten). If the dog shows signs of needing to go outside these 5 times, you should also take him out. These will be extra trips beyond the 5 times. After a while, the dog will know that those 5 times are designated bathroom times. Always use your bathroom command while outside until he finishes the task. After he finishes, you should pet him and give verbal encouragement and praise so they know they did well. Because dogs have biological clocks, it’s best that the 5 times are fairly fixed. This way the dog will learn to go outside first to the bathroom.

When the dog can complete his bathroom tasks fully during these 5 times and no longer goes inside the house, you can keep doing this for a while, and then gradually reduce the times from 5 to 3.
