How to Properly Bathe a Poodle
Poodle (Detailed Introduction)
The first step in caring for a poodle’s coat is how to properly bathe her. For obedient poodles, bathing is very simple, but for moody and uncooperative poodles, bathing is as difficult as climbing to the sky. So, how to properly bathe a poodle?
The correct bathing method is also key to ensuring the quality of the poodle's coat.
Things to pay attention to when bathing:
First, always comb the poodle’s coat before bathing. This can detangle matted hair and prevent further tangling. To reduce pain for the dog while combing, hold the hair roots with one hand and comb with the other.
Second, the bath water temperature for a poodle should not be too hot or too cold. Generally, 36°C is suitable in spring, and 37°C in winter. Water that is too cold or too hot will adversely affect the poodle’s hair follicles.
Third, be sure to prevent shampoo from getting into the dog’s eyes and ears when bathing. Rinse thoroughly, leaving no shampoo residue on the body, as it can irritate the skin and cause dermatitis.
Fourth, poodles should be bathed in the afternoon or at noon. Do not bathe them when the air humidity is high or on rainy days. Since bathing removes much of the oil from the coat, never place the dog to dry under direct sunlight.
Fifth, do not bathe poodles too frequently. Frequent baths will wash away the protective oil layer on the coat and skin, possibly causing skin diseases and making the hair dry and split.
Sunbathing is definitely beneficial for poodle hair growth. Appropriate UV exposure can kill harmful bacteria, and together with sufficient exercise, it stimulates blood circulation, helping the dog grow a healthy coat. Pet essential oils also greatly help poodle hair. It’s worth trying.
