How to Dock a Puppy’s Tail?
Tail docking has certain effects on fattening. First, it reduces tail activity, and second, it decreases the nutritional needs of the tail itself. However, it is not absolutely necessary. Tail docking must be performed surgically by a veterinarian and should not be handled independently. Tail docking should be done within 1 to 2 months after birth. The method is: shave hair at the surgical site, disinfect, perform local infiltration anesthesia, apply a tourniquet 3–4 cm above the surgical site to stop bleeding. The assistant fixes the tail, keeping it in a horizontal position. The surgeon rings the skin with a surgical knife, then pushes 1–2 cm upward under the skin, and cuts at the tail joint. Tie off the blood vessels, fully stop the bleeding, sprinkle anti-inflammatory powder, suture the skin flap, and disinfect with iodine solution.
