How to Choose a Poodle? What Is the Usual Price? In recent years, Poodles have become the preferred breed for many dog lovers. They are brave, lively, intelligent, and relatively easy to train commands. Moreover, Poodles come in various coat colors, and their hair is easier to trim and style. Poodles have become a recent popular trend.

Poodles have a very well-proportioned body, showing a one-to-one ratio. However, for newcomers, choosing a healthy and excellent Poodle still requires some preparation and careful consideration.

1. Body Type Selection
Poodles come in four body types: Giant, Standard, Miniature, and Toy, each with unique charm. The Toy Poodle is exquisite and delicate, Miniature is small and elegant, Standard is majestic, and Giant is tall and powerful. Individuals can choose their preferred body type accordingly.

Giant Poodle (Teddy) Shoulder Height: >48cm
Standard Poodle (Teddy) Shoulder Height: 39-48cm
Miniature Poodle (Teddy) Shoulder Height: 29-38cm
Toy Poodle (Teddy) Shoulder Height: 25-28cm
Teacup Poodle (Teddy) Shoulder Height: <20cm     Currently, Teacup Poodles are also classified under Toy Poodles.

2. Coat Color Selection
Poodles have nearly ten solid coat colors. If Poodles of various colors stand before you, you might feel dazzled and not know where to start. Black Poodles are steady and deep, White Poodles are extraordinary and refined, and Coffee-colored Poodles are noble and dignified. You should choose the color you like best according to your personality.

3. Pay Attention to Pure Bloodline
When purchasing a Poodle, you must pay attention to the purity of its bloodline, which is a crucial factor in ensuring the dog's quality. Only when its parents and grandparents are purebred dogs can genetic stability be guaranteed, indicating it is likely an excellent purebred dog. According to regulations, to confirm a purebred Poodle has been bred generation after generation without significant changes and its breed standard is fixed, a pedigree certificate is usually issued for this purebred Poodle. For dogs without certificates, you must check the quality of the dog's parents and several generations above, clarify the pedigree origin, confirm stable genetics, and check for hereditary diseases to infer the quality of the dog. If you do not pay special attention to pedigree, you can make a basic judgment by checking whether the puppy's parents have normal body shape and color.

4. Meet Appearance Standards
Dogs should be strictly selected according to the Poodle breed standard. Of course, when comparing, you may not find a perfect dog, but as long as the advantages outnumber the disadvantages, and the disadvantages are not fundamental defects, it is acceptable.

5. Health Condition

1. Check if the nose is moist. A nose that is both wet and cool is a sign of a healthy dog, not only for Poodles but all dogs.

2. Check if the paws are black and shiny without dirt (unless they stepped on something very dirty, dog paws usually do not stick dirt). Most importantly, the paw pads should not be dry and hard (dogs with distemper grow hard paw pads that look like dried mud. This is a secretion that cannot be washed or wiped off, and touching it hurts the dog).

3. Check if the area around the dog's anus is clean. Healthy dogs have solid, tubular stools that generally do not stick to the fur around the anus. However, when dogs have diarrhea due to illness, unformed stools often stick to the fur.

4. Observe if the dog is lively. This is not very accurate since sometimes when you visit the dog, it may just be tired and want to sleep, appearing less lively, but this does not mean it is unhealthy.

5. Finally, some appearance-related factors, such as whether the coat color is even and without stray hairs, if the dog has an underbite, outward or inward bow legs, and if its facial features are attractive.

6. Price Range

Poodles with average appearance cost about 2000 to 4000 RMB.

Toy Poodles are relatively higher, around 3000 to 5000 RMB.

Purebred Teacup Poodles usually cost over 10,000 RMB, with a minimum of about 7000 RMB, so those bought for 2000 to 3000 RMB cannot be Teacup Poodles.

The price difference between male and female Chocolate Poodles varies significantly, generally around 2000 to 4000 RMB.

Miniature Poodles are affordable, approximately 1500 to 3000 RMB, making them popular among many families.

Black and White Poodles usually cost about 800 to 1500 RMB, also the two more common colors in daily life.

Giant Poodles kept at home generally range from 4000 to 6000 RMB. Those with better appearance cost about 5000 to 8000 RMB, and ones with slightly less good appearance can be bought for 3000 to 4000 RMB. Purebred show-quality males cost roughly 10,000 to 18,000 RMB, while females require at least 12,000 to 20,000 RMB.

In summary, when choosing a dog, do not be careless. It is best to buy from reputable kennels and observe carefully.
