How to Care for Dogs After Vaccination
Border Collie (Detailed Introduction)
Vaccinating dogs to increase their resistance to certain infectious diseases is very necessary. Owners also need to prepare a lot for vaccination. Here, I have organized some ways to care for your dog after vaccination.
1. Let the dog get plenty of rest. Some owners still take their dogs out to relieve themselves, but it’s recommended to go straight home after the dog has finished and avoid lingering outside or contact with other dogs.
2. Promote appetite. Some pets may have poor appetite after vaccination. Besides their daily food, owners can add some canned food to stimulate their appetite and maintain normal eating.
3. No bathing. It is not recommended to bathe the dog for 7 days after vaccination because bathing can cause colds and reduce immunity; it may also make them nervous. Since the body is still adapting to the vaccine, external stimulation can affect the vaccine’s efficacy. Generally, doctors suggest bathing the dog before vaccination.
4. Warm compress on lumps. Some pets may develop lumps if the vaccine injection site is not fully massaged to disperse the medication. Owners can help by applying a warm compress and massaging the lump. If the lump does not disappear within 2 weeks, promptly visit a veterinarian for examination.
